Sam Gae Tang

Sam Gae Tang uses a very young and tender chicken stuffed with rice, dates, ginger, ginseng and other delicious spices. Great dinner recipe!
For US to UK equivalents see this rough guide

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 2 cornish hens
  • 1/2 cup sweet rice
  • 5 chinese dates
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 4 chestnuts
  • 3 green onions
  • 3 ginseng roots
  • 1 piece ginger
  • Water
  • 1 tbsp ground black pepper

Method:

Soak clean ginseng roots in water to make them soft. In a pan combine previously soaked sweet rice, carved hens, garlic cloves, chestnuts and ginseng. Cook for 20 min.

Cut the drumsticks so that they can hold inner contents of a hen. Stuff hens with rice and spice mixture.

Add diced ginger, olive oil and chopped onions to the pan. Cover with a lid and cook hens for 30 min on low heat.

Once cooked pour the juices on the top of stuffed hens and serve.
