Crab Pie Recipe

This is a very traditional crab pie which derives its name from the Gaelic "Partan" meaning crab. It is a simple but tasty dish which uses hot dressed crab.

Scottish Crab Pie Recipe

Ingredients:
1 large Cooked Crab (approx 2-3 lbs)
2oz breadcrumbs
3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1&1/2 tablespoons Scottish mustard(French would do otherwise-mild)
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
salt & pepper

Method:

Remove all the crab meat from the shell(keep the shell). In a bowl, mix the meat and nutmeg, then season to taste. Take a pan and place the vinegar and mustard together, bring to the boil, whilst stirring gently.

Pour this over the crabmeat mixture in the bowl. Mix thoroughly, then return the mixture to the crab shells. Sprinkle with the breadcrumbs. Dot these with some butter and place under a warm grill. Serve when browned on top and warmed through.

As with all recipes which involve cooking and baking a sensible approach must be taken especially when dealing with warm or hot (temperature) ingredients. If you are unable to take due care, please do not attempt to make any of these recipes. All recipes are tried at your own risk.
