Traditional Beef in Beer Stew Recipe
This is a recipe for traditional beef stew with the addition of beer to give it an added "zing".
Beef in Beer Stew
Ingredients:
1 &1/2 lbs Stewing Steak
1 oz seasoned flour
Butter for frying
4 oz sliced onions
Seasoning
1oz sugar (granualted white)
Fresh Tyme (Sprig)
1 Bayleaf
10 oz Scottish Ale
5 fl oz Beef Stock
Method:
Preheat oven to 400F. Slice the beef into thin strips then toss in the seasoned flour. Melt a little butter in a frying pan and brown the meat and soften onions. Transfer to ovenproof casserole dish. Add the sugar, mustard, thyme & bay, then season well.
Cook in oven for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and add the liquid (beer and stock) then bring to boil on a ring on top of stove. Return to oven, having reduced the temperature to 325F for 1&1/2 hours.
This dish should serve 4 people and traditionally would be served with a potato dish of your choice.
