Traditional Stoved bacon and Turnip Recipe
Stoved simply means cooked on the top of the "range". This recipe for Stoved Bacon and Turnip is a very simple vegetable and bacon accompaniment dish which should go well with a main course such as roast chicken or game.
Stoved Bacon and Turnip
Ingredients:
1 Large Turnip (Swede), peeled and cut into slices 1/4 inch thick
8 Rashers of smoked bacon
1 small onion, sliced thinly
Method:
Gently fry the bacon in a large saucepan for two minutes (VERY little oil, if any should be required). Set the rashers to one side. Build up alternative layers in the saucepan, starting with 2 rashers of bacon with a little onion, followed buy a layer of swede (turnip) slices. Repeat process until all ingredients are used up.
Add 2 tablespoons (you may require slightly more dependent on the width of your pan-do NOT over water) of cold water and simmer gently over a low heat until cooked through.
