David Livingstone Memorial Pictures This picture is of an early medicine chest or cabinet which was taken by the early explorers into Africa to cure any medical conditions which may arise. By modern standards (and probably by the standards fo the time) it is quite basic. If this was the medicine cabinet, who would want to be ill? David Livingstone's memorial is situated in Blantyre, Scotland. He is commonly regarded as Scotland greatest ever explorer, heading off into Africa when it was largely uncharted by Western Europeans. He is also credited with playing a large part in the ending of the slave trade in Britain. The attraction is reviewed here.
This property is presently managed by National Trust for Scotland.
