Flora MacDonald Photograph

Twenty-four years after her birth in 1722 on the Isle of Skye, Flora MacDonald's life took a dramatic twist. After the defeat of the Jacobite army and its leader "Bonnie" Prince Charlie (Charles Edward Stuart, the Young Pretender) at the battle of Culloden in 1746, Charles was forced into hiding. Desperately fleeing from one hiding place to another and to avoid certain death, the young Prince knew that he needed to escape to France (via the Isle of Skye). This is where Flora MacDonald enters the story.

This picture was taken at the Culloden Visitor Centre.
