Flintlock Rifles

Days out in Scotland - Royal Museum in Edinburgh

This is a picture of some Flintlock Rifles taken at the Royal Museum in Edinburgh. The rifles date from 1700's and are part of a very small display showing arms and armour. These rifles would have probably been used for shooting small game/birds/animals and as such were regarded as sporting rifles.

Highly ornate and decorative they would have most likely been owned by land owners or their sons.
The museum itself is very large and because it is next door (literally) to the National Museum a good few hours can be spent in it.
