Doune Castle Photograph

Doune Castle is one of those places which may look strangely familiar, even to those who have never visited before. You may have seen it in one of "Monty Python's" films -"Monty Python and the Holy Grail".

Doune Castle is named after a dun, which means fortified town, some of the remains of which stand nearby. Doune was the Highland center for pistol making and its long history can be seen by the traces of prehistoric earthworks around this stone castle.
